HEAT Receives $1 Million Grant From Georgia Public Service Commission
HEAT was awarded a $1 million grant from the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) last fall. The award will be distributed in $200,000 increments over five years. “This is a significant achievement for HEAT, and for the many Georgians who need help with their heating bills,” said HEAT Board Chairman, Vernon Lee.
The timing of the grant could not have been better. The delayed start of the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in Georgia increased the demand for help from organizations such as HEAT. The PSC grant allowed HEAT to meet some of the high demand for emergency energy assistance as temperatures began to drop in late fall, as well as during the winter.
