H.E.A.T. funds assist households experiencing a potential loss of energy service or households that are in need of getting service restored. The amount of funds available for distribution depends on the generosity of corporate and private donors.
The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) distributes H.E.A.T. funds statewide through local community action agencies. To qualify for assistance, you must meet eligibility requirements. Qualified households may apply for assistance at the agency that serves their county. Download the directory of community action agencies (pdf file) to find out the name and number of the agency that serves your county.
Once an applicant has been approved for energy assistance, a check is sent to the energy provider and applied toward the applicant's account.
