Welcome

Welcome to the Heating Energy Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.), Inc. We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been assisting Georgians with their home energy needs since 1983. Our mission is to prevent human suffering by providing energy assistance for Georgians in need.

H.E.A.T. is the oldest statewide fuel fund program in Georgia. We help low-income households meet their energy needs through partnerships with concerned citizens, energy companies, state government, community action agencies, corporations, and other organizations.

News

The need for assistance with energy costs is greater than ever.  With large job losses, furloughs and wage cuts, many families struggle to pay their heating bills. You can help those deserving families by donating to H.E.A.T. today. To contribute, visit our Donate Now page. H.E.A.T. has distributed more than $20 million to nearly 89,000 families since it began in 1983.

Thanks to efforts lead by City Administrator Gayle Durrence, the city of Claxton, GA has blown away the competition to win the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia’s H.E.A.T. Award. The prize recognizes the outstanding effort by a city to inspire its residents to help neighbors in need pay their heating bills. Recognition goes to the city that raises the most money per active customer. Claxton has won the distinguish award for three consecutive years since 2009.

Fundraising efforts are in full swing across Georgia to help ensure that families in need stay warm this winter. Various cities and natural gas companies are including information in utility bills as to how citizens can help. Realizing that the need is great, most companies have made corporate contributions as well.

H.E.A.T. funds are distributed by the Georgia Department of Human Services through local community action agencies. Families who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for assistance at the agency that serves their county. Call your local community action agency to find out where to go to place an application and what documentation you would need to bring.

We welcome our newest corporate supporters – the Ledger-Inquirer (Columbus), the Telegraph (Macon), Walmart and Austell Natural Gas. They join other corporate and government supporters in helping Georgians meet their energy needs through H.E.A.T. more>>
