Welcome

Welcome to the Heating Energy Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.), Inc. We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been assisting Georgians with their home energy needs since 1983. Our mission is to prevent human suffering by providing energy assistance for Georgians in need.

H.E.A.T. is the oldest statewide fuel fund program in Georgia. We help low-income households meet their energy needs through partnerships with concerned citizens, energy companies, state government, community action agencies, corporations, and other organizations.

News

Spring is in the air and old man winter has finally gone – but not before he left his mark on those in our community who are already struggling to pay their heating bills. The prolonged number of cold days we endured this year has truly added an additional burden to those who are already stretched to the limit financially and wondering how they will find the resources to cover their past due bills. Low-income families spend 15 percent of their income on home heating in Georgia. You can help deserving families catch up on their heating bills by donating to H.E.A.T. today. To contribute, visit our Donate Now page. H.E.A.T. has distributed nearly $21 million to more than 90,000 families since its inception in 1983.

Thanks to the efforts of 20 cities throughout Georgia, more than $40,000 was raised to help families in need. At the 2012 Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia’s annual meeting, Claxton, Tifton, Covington and Winder received awards to recognize their outstanding efforts in inspiring local citizens to contribute to H.E.A.T. Awards were presented in three categories and the winners were determined by the amount of donations raised per utility customer.

The following companies and agencies have contributed to H.E.A.T. to help families stay warm this winter:  Atlanta Gas Light (An AGL Resources Company), SCANA Energy, Georgia Natural Gas, Gas South, Walmart, Constellation, Infinite Energy, Stream Energy, FireSide Natural Gas, Georgia Electric Membership Corporation, Georgia Propane Gas Association and the McDonnell Group.

H.E.A.T. funds are distributed by the Georgia Department of Human Services through local community action agencies. Families who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for assistance at the agency that serves their county. Call your local community action agency to find out where to go to place an application and what documentation you would need to bring.

H.E.A.T. has launched an exciting new campaign in partnership with SCANA Energy, Georgia Natural Gas, Gas South, the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia and nearly 30 local municipalities. Go to www.heatga.org/warm to learn more.
